Up and The Princess and the Frog

Sat Jun 20, 2009, 7:14 PM
So, I just got back from seeing Up, and it definitely lived up to what everyone's been telling me about it. It had a nice mixture of sad, silliness, and cute. The talking dog and the emu were great.

BUT OH OH OH! New 2D animated DISNEY MOVIE! Yesss! I love Disney, I've probably seen most of the animated movies at least fifty times. Each. And this one looks like it'll be just as good as all the others, AND it's in the same style that I love so much.

Oh holy snap you have a DA Raie.

Coo.

Indeed I do.

Is your name really Raie? (like, is it just Raie or is there more to it?) It's freaky weird... I named one of my OC's that. Granted, it started out Rei, but I flip flopped it all around until it became Raielynne, but ... just kinda odd... everyone looks at me weird with that spelling! Freaky.

It's Raie, except it's not like "Ray" it's like Rye-ee, though I just drop off the e on the end because it confuses people. I just tell people to think of it like Rye bread or Raichu.

I've seen a couple people with the name Raie for OCs or nicknames for their real name, except they all seem to be "ray". Heh.

Yeah, mine's pronounced "Ray" because what I did was do the acceptable -y to -ie substitution (that and I hate the look of Rae... just looks so... unfinished to me).

However, I did end up naming my daughter Raielynne and we call her Raie (Ray) all the time.

Oh, I see! Your daughter is cute.

It's a little weird for me when I see other Raies and they're all "ray" D: and it's annoying when people pronounce my name wron on purpose just to spite me. My e isn't silent, so it's just Rai-e. If that makes sense...

*nods* it's one of those names of how the mother decides the pronunciation. Yours went the route of "ai" being the Japanese "love" ("eye") which does make it "rye-ee" (all letters are pronounced in Japanese, as I'm sure you know). I went the french route with a+i=long a with silent e (french drop last vowels).

But people pronouncing it wrong just to spite, especially after corrected, that's just bad taste. Of course the same can be said of my name, (Laura) is it La-ra or Lor-a? (I've been tempted to introduce myself as La-oo-ra. XD) GAH. The name game. It sucks... no matter what name anyone has, someone's going to pronounce it wrong eventually. (And it doesn't matter what your name is... you'll have someone misspell it no matter what... it's all human nature unfortunately.)

Anyway, sorry for the super long reply, it's been a pleasure to actually meet someone with the same spelling. :) I love the name no matter what the pronunciation... it just looks so... right. :)
